Dr. Dean Spirou
Dr. Dean Spirou is a practising Clinical Psychologist and Board-Approved Supervisor. He completed his Master of Clinical Psychology and PhD in the Graduate School of Health at the University of Technology Sydney.
Dean has clinical experience in a variety of settings including public health, private practice, and community-controlled health services. He has particular expertise on the psychological assessment and treatment of weight-related psychological difficulties as well as specialised knowledge in the treatment of childhood conduct problems. Dean has experience implementing scientifically informed interventions for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and has undergone further training to become certified by PCIT International as a therapist and within agency trainer in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
Dean works from an evidence-based, person-centred, and integrative perspective and values collaboration in therapy. He is passionate about creating meaningful improvements and working towards achievable goals.
In addition to his clinical work, Dean is an academic researcher and Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, Adjunct Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, and Conjoint Associate Lecturer at Western Sydney University. Dean’s academic research focuses on assessing and treating the psychological mechanisms of adult obesity and weight management.
Dean is also the NSW State Committee Treasurer of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA). He holds full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.
